Announcing the Meritorious Service Award winner for 2025

This award, given on recommendation of the Nominations Committee, acknowledges the contribution of individuals who have provided an exceptional service to the Society far above that which one would normally expect for their position or role.


The 2025 Meritorious Service Award has been presented to Dr Ingrid Du Rand for her hard work and contributions to the Society. Her support for the BTS guideline programme is long-standing, advising on methodology for the 2010 pleural disease guidelines, serving as Co-Chair of the BTS Guideline for Long Term Macrolide use in chronic respiratory disease in adults and completing a term on the BTS standards of care committee. She has also served as the guidelines editor for Thorax.  

She introduced the BTS Guideline development group to GRADEPro tool and supported guideline development using GRADE methodology.  

Currently, she is the co-chair of the BTS Clinical Statement on High Flow Nasal Oxygen, and a member of the BTS QI Committee, as well as being Quality Improvement and Audit Lead for respiratory medicine in her hospital, where she has led several BTS audits, including the BTS RSU, PE and Oxygen Audits. 

Dr Du Rand has a variety of lead roles, including bronchiectasis and lung cancer and is also NIV/Oxygen lead for the department.Ingrid wears a variety of other hats, including Research Lead for the Trust and GIM Medical School Lead for nearby Worcester University.  

Her commitment to her colleagues, her patients and the Society is exemplary, and the BTS Meritorious Service Award is well deserved.
