BTS MDR-TB Clinical Advice Service

Expert support for clinicians in UK hospitals managing multidrug-resistant tuberculosis or other complex TB cases

About the service

A multidisciplinary panel of experienced respiratory and infectious disease physicians, paediatricians, pharmacists, TB nurses, microbiologists and public health consultants provide expert opinion and approval for novel drug therapies. Advice is provided in a secure online written discussion forum and in monthly, virtual MDT meetings where clinicians may be invited to present anonymised cases for real-time discussion and consensus advice.

Access the service

Clinicians working in UK hospitals can use our secure portal to submit case information and request advice. Advisers receive notification of new requests and respond promptly.

Observe an MDT meeting

NHS professionals are welcome to observe an MDT meeting to gain insight into the challenges of managing MDR-TB and other complex TB cases. Topics discussed include drug regimens, drug side effects, role of co-morbidities and public health concerns.

We can arrange for groups of trainees to observe a meeting together, with the approval of their TPD or educational supervisor.

Please note: Observers will have cameras off and microphones muted and there is no opportunity to ask questions during the MDT. You can email questions to the panel after the meeting at mdrtb@brit-thoracic.org.uk
