BTS launches new Tobacco Dependency project

BTS is delighted to announce that work has started in earnest on our new 3-year project to support clinicians involved in tobacco dependence treatment services across the NHS.

This project, made possible by funding from NHSE, will align to the Long Term Plan work streams in England but also involve all devolved nations.

The project will be complementary to the delivery of the NHSE&I transformation project that will offer NHS-funded tobacco dependence treatment within Acute, Mental Health and Maternity services.

Work will focus on the following key areas:

  • Supporting clinicians as they work to establish and improve tobacco dependence services in their locality
  • Collate and share relevant resources and learning to identify best practice
  • Education and quality improvement
  • Data collection and national audit

The initiative is supported by Melanie Perry, a new dedicated project manager, who joined the BTS team over the summer. Melanie has significant experience in both delivering and teaching tobacco dependence strategies. The work sits under the BTS Quality Improvement Committee, and we have recruited a specific steering group to provide overall governance to the project.

Respiratory Futures will host all resources and updates, further establishing our partner website as a key platform for sharing, supporting, and disseminating best practice across respiratory medicine. Regular updates will be included in eBTS News and Respiratory Futures newsletters.
