BIOGRAPHY
James E. Gern, MD, is a Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Gern’s research program focuses on identifying how viral respiratory infections and other environmental and host factors influence exacerbations of childhood asthma. He established the Children’s Allergy and Asthma Data Repository (CADRE), which pools and harmonizes data from 13 US birth cohorts. Dr. Gern also leads a laboratory-based program investigating rhinovirus-C types and how allergic inflammation and the airway microbiome influence rhinovirus-epithelial cell interactions and respiratory outcomes in childhood asthma.
