Tobacco Dependency QI tool
The BTS Tobacco Dependence Treatment QI Tool supports hospitals in undertaking local quality improvement projects in treating tobacco dependency. It provides a range of resources and practical guidance on improvement approaches across three key areas: referral for stop smoking support; prescription of nicotine replacement therapy; and staff training.
The tool was first created in 2017 and updated in 2023. The 2023 update should be viewed alongside the 2017 original. The 2023 version incorporates findings from the BTS 2021 Tobacco Dependency Audit, references to the NHS Long Term Plan, and expanded guidance on relevant techniques and pathways.
