Translation in pleural disease: improving understanding and treatments

Stefan Marciniak is Professor of Respiratory Science at the University of Cambridge and an Honorary Consultant Respiratory Physician at Addenbrooke’s and Royal Papworth Hospitals. His laboratory at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research investigates how stress‑signalling pathways shape the development and progression of lung disease. Clinically, he specialises in pleural medicine, with a particular focus on the genetics of pneumothorax. He co‑leads the NIHR National Research Strategy Group in Pleural Disease, helping to shape national research priorities. He also co‑directs the NHS Rare Disease Collaborative Network for Familial Pneumothorax, chairing its bimonthly national multidisciplinary team meeting.
