Learning objectives
- Understand how genetic susceptibility interacts with airborne occupational and environmental exposures to influence risk and outcomes for respiratory disease, including lung cancer and COPD.
- Examine current epidemiological and mechanistic evidence linking indoor and outdoor air quality with chronic airway disorders.
- Explore how exposure science and real-world surveillance are driving change in how we detect, regulate and prevent silica-related lung disease.

BIOGRAPHY
Orianne Dumas is an epidemiologist and head of the “Integrative Respiratory Epidemiology” team of the Centre for research in Epidemiology and Population Health, at Inserm (French National Institute for Health and Medical Research, Villejuif). Over the past 15 years, she studied exposure to irritants and chemicals in relation to asthma and COPD, with the largest part of her contributions in occupational respiratory diseases. She strongly contributed to the emerging evidence for adverse effects of cleaning products in asthma and COPD, based on French and US studies. She also has strong interest in development of novel methods for occupational exposure assessment.
