Learning objectives
- To recognise the risk of second primary lung cancers in radically treated patients, appreciate potential factors associated with increased risk and be aware of future tools for risk assessment and early detection.
- To understand the concept of minimal residual disease in lung cancer, its relationship with recurrence and biomarkers to aid surveillance and early diagnosis.
- To describe current and emerging chemoprevention strategies with a focus on vaccine therapy to prevent or delay the development of second primary lung cancers and tumour recurrence after radical treatment.

BIOGRAPHY
Professor Mariam Jamal-Hanjani is a Clinician Scientist and Group Leader at the UCL Cancer Institute in London. She studied theoretical physics as an undergraduate followed by medicine at UCL and is a practicing thoracic medical oncologist. Her laboratory focusses on the biological processes driving metastatic disease, including tumour-and host-initiated mediators of catabolic states and failure of the adaptive immune system. She is Principal Investigator of the national TRACERx and TRACERx EVO lung cancer evolution studies, and Chief Investigator of the national PEACE research autopsy programme, and the first-in-human LungVax cancer prevention vaccine trial.
