BTS Grand Challenge Lecture

Professor Liz Sapey is an academic respiratory physician at the University of Birmingham, where she is Head of the School of Medical Sciences. She is President of the British Association for Lung Research and the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland. Liz is passionate about research into lung health and disease, and mentoring researchers from all professional and personal backgrounds. She is also founding Director of PIONEER, the HDR UK Health Data Research Hub for Acute Care. PIONEER works with patients, researchers and industry to use health data safely to develop and evaluate innovations that improve patient care.

Professor Sanjay Agrawal is the National Specialty Adviser for Tobacco Dependency at NHS England, Chair of the Royal College of Physicians Tobacco Advisory Group and Consultant in Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine. Over the past decade, Professor Agrawal has highlighted the need to address the treatment of tobacco dependency and is chair of the RCP’s Tobacco Advisory Group and NHS England’s national specialty adviser for tobacco.
