7 day services

We support the development of 7 day services for respiratory patients, provided they are:

• properly planned
• appropriately resourced
• not imposed on existing working patterns
• fully involve key support services and related professions in the delivery of services
  
  

The development of redesigned respiratory services provides an opportunity to:

• introduce modified job plans that will improve job satisfaction for both senior and more junior consultants
• maximise the benefits of patient service provision from the more experienced medical workforce.

However, there may be a detrimental effect on the content of speciality training due to the focus on a consultant-led service. We encourage those developing such services to be aware of this issue.
