BTS President and President-elect 2025

We are pleased to announce that Professor Robina Coker has begun her role as BTS President, and Professor Adam Hill is the new BTS President-elect. Professor Hill will join the BTS Board and will take over as President at the BTS Annual General Meeting in November 2026.

We look forward to working closely with Professor Coker over the next 12 months.

Professor Robina Coker

Professor Robina Coker is Professor of Practice in Respiratory Medicine at Hammersmith Hospital and Imperial College London. She developed the interstitial lung disease (ILD) service at Hammersmith from a monthly clinic with one ILD consultant in 1999 to the current service, which runs 10 clinics a week involving four ILD consultants, an ILD clinical nurse specialist, and an ILD pharmacist. Robina was Clinical Director of the NIHR North West London (NWL) Comprehensive Local Research Network from 2010 to 2014, and Clinical Director of the NIHR NWL Clinical Research Network from 2014 to 2024. Robina was President of the Harveian Society of London in 2022. Robina has worked closely with BTS since 1998, when she was the junior doctor representative on the Education Committee. She has been a member of the Standards of Care Committee; Chair of the BTS Air Travel Working Party and later the Clinical Statement Group; and Honorary BTS Treasurer. She was also a founding member of the BTS Lung Disease Registry Programme. Robina was awarded an individual Bronze Medal from the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2019 in recognition of her work on air travel safety, and in 2021, she received the BTS Meritorious Service Award. She currently represents the Society on the NHSE Specialised Respiratory Commissioning Clinical Reference Group (CRG).

Robina said:

"It is an immense privilege and honour to be elected as President for the British Thoracic Society. Representing nearly 5,000 lung specialists from around the UK, the Society leads on improving standards of care for patients, while raising awareness of the impact of lung disease and supporting respiratory teams with educational and professional development. I look forward very much to serving the Society and wider respiratory community in this capacity."

Professor Adam Hill

Professor Adam Hill is Post Graduate Dean, NHS Education for Scotland and Professor of Respiratory Medicine, University of Edinburgh. He chairs the British Thoracic Society Standards of Care Committee and is the NHS Research Scotland Respiratory Lead, Respiratory Advisor to Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and working with the Scottish Government long-term conditions team. He is a trustee of the Morriston Davies Trust.

Adam said:

"I am delighted and honoured to take on the role of President Elect. Together with our new President, Professor Robina Coker, and the wider BTS team, I look forward to strengthening the Society’s visibility, growing our membership, and driving forward our shared ambition of Better Lung Health for All."
