NHS England recently published a letter setting out the national approach to 2023/24 winter planning and the areas of priorities for the system this year. Alongside this, a set of recommended winter roles and responsibilities was outlined to provide more clarity on specific actions should be undertaken.
The Royal College of Physicians (RCP), Society for Acute Medicine (SAM), British Thoracic Society (BTS) and British Geriatrics Society (BGS) have responded to this national approach, noting that workforce is the main limiting factor and hospitals can maximise their impact through four evidence based interventions.
