ILD Registry Publication Highlights Impact of Data on Patient Care

The British Thoracic Society is pleased to announce the publication of the BTS ILD Registry Annual Report 2024.

This is the first time data from the expanded Registry have been published, covering not only IPF and sarcoidosis but any fibrosing ILD.

This report highlights hospital-level service benchmarking data for 2024, aligning with the NHSE ILD Quality Dashboard metrics and the NICE IPF Quality Statements, and allowing hospitals to compare themselves directly with similar sites for the first time. This information is focused on wait times, MDTs, specialist nurse availability, and patient needs for oxygen, pulmonary rehab and palliative care, and can be used to advocate for additional local resourcing.

The BTS ILD Registry vision is ‘Using data to support better lung health for all with ILD’ and research is vital to improve patient care and outcomes. Registry data, presented in the report, and also from 2013 onwards, are available for researchers to access.

This is an exciting time for the BTS ILD Registry with a host of new features and initiatives now live, including:
  • User-downloadable reports comparing a wide range of service-level data to national data and to similar sites.
  • User-downloadable proof of participation for clinical portfolios.
  • Sites can now use their own local electronic means to gain consent (provided the full wording of the consent form is included).

BTS encourages all those with an interest in ILD to read this report, which is designed to support hospitals in gaining actionable insights into key drivers for improved patient outcomes.

Dr Nazia Chaudhuri, Chair of the BTS ILD Registry, says,

“I’m excited to present this report, which focuses on giving hospitals the opportunity to benchmark their services against quality standards as well as against other hospitals nationally. Patient care is at the heart of what we do, and providing our colleagues across the UK with these resources helps inform their discussions with hospital managers, ultimately enacting real and meaningful change in developing and planning ILD services.”
