The BTS Model of Care for Complex Home Mechanical Ventilation sets out standards of care and infrastructure for Complex Home Mechanical Ventilation (HMV) services, which provide long-term respiratory support to patients with ventilatory failure in the community setting. 

About the Model

The document provides guidance in a number of areas, including commissioning, governance, workforce, service, and patient pathway development, and was informed by the pooled knowledge and expertise of a multi-disciplinary group of experts.

About the Appendices

The Appendices set out examples of documents currently in use by Complex HMV services, which are intended to support implementation and can be adapted for local use.
