Welcoming the incoming Committee Chairs for 2025

BTS is pleased to announce two new incoming chairs who will be leading BTS Committees. 

Dr Odiri Eneje is the new Chair of the Education and Training Committee and  Professor James Chalmers is the new Chair of the Standards of Care Committee.

Dr Odiri Eneje graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine, London and has an intercalated Bachelor of Science in Management. During her many years of specialist training, she completed the Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene before a sabbatical working in rural South Africa looking after patients with complex lung infections.  

She has completed a Master of Arts in Clinical Education at University College London. Her main educational interest is in the use of simulation-based training in medical education and is currently the simulation lead for her trust. She has also completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge investigating the role of inflammation in Cystic Fibrosis.  

She is a consultant in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with a specialist interest in Cystic Fibrosis, non-CF bronchiectasis, complex lung infections and respiratory immunology. 

Professor James D Chalmers took up the Rhodes Professorship of Experimental Therapeutics and Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Oxford in November 2025. Previously, he served as the Asthma + Lung UK Chair of Respiratory Research at the University of Dundee and as a Consultant Respiratory Physician.

Professor Chalmers leads a translational research group focused on developing new treatments for bronchiectasis and is also interested in COPD, pneumonia, and associated conditions. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed papers, including landmark trials that have changed practice in bronchiectasis. He has chaired five international guidelines panels, including the recent ERS bronchiectasis guidelines. He is the Chief Editor of the European Respiratory Journal. He was Chair of the British Thoracic Society Science and Research Committee from 2022-2024 and will serve as Chair of the BTS Standards of Care Committee from 2025 onwards.
