Prestigious Respiratory Lecture Awards Now Open for Submissions
The two lecture awards will be presented to recognise the achievements of mid-career respiratory researchers.

The British Thoracic Society (BTS) are delighted to again be partnering with Asthma + Lung UK and the British Association for Lung Research (BALR) to recognise the achievements of established respiratory researchers.
The two separate lecture awards will be presented to those who are mid-way through their career and will celebrate an excellent track record of achievement and impact in respiratory research.
Dr Samantha Walker, Director of Research & Innovation at Asthma + Lung UK, said:
“It’s great to support an award that celebrates the significant achievement of respiratory researchers, when they’re in the middle of their career. At Asthma + Lung UK we’re proud to recognise lung research talent and encourage all winners to continue to develop their career and find research breakthroughs for people with lung conditions. Urgent action is needed to increase investment into lung research to give everyone fighting for breath a future. Because breakthroughs can happen and when they do, they save lives.”
Professor Karl Staples, Chair of the BALR said,
“As promoting the next generation of respiratory researchers has always been a core value of the BALR, we are proud to once again support these awards for these historically underserved mid-career researchers, Such awards are important markers of esteem that will further assist these emerging leaders in applications for more substantive grants and more senior positions.”
Professor Mona Bafadhel, Chair of the Science and Research Committee at BTS said,
“The Lecture Awards honour emerging leaders in Respiratory Medicine, this is a fantastic opportunity to spotlight excellence in Respiratory Medicine and Science on a platform that celebrates the very best.”
The awards will be presented at the BTS Winter Meeting this November, a well-established annual event which highlights the importance of respiratory healthcare, providing the multi-disciplinary team with education, insights and opportunities to connect with other respiratory specialists.
Winners will be invited to give a lecture as part of a dedicated standalone session at the Winter Meeting and will have the cost of their registration covered for all three days of the conference.
