BTS welcomes incoming Committee Chairs for 2023

BTS is pleased to announce Dr Daniel Smith as the new Chair of the Workforce and Service Development Committee

Dan, has a diverse work experience in the healthcare sector and currently works as Editor in Chief, Medical Care - driving change at the Royal College of Physicians and as a Clinical Associate for the Emergency Care Improvement Support, NHS England.

Dan is currently working as a Respiratory Consultant at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Dan gained valuable experience as a National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow at NHS England  Midlands, leading workforce initiatives, including the development of the Medical Support Worker role and leading the collaborative teams that won the BMJ workforce award in 2021 for the Midlands Charter programme, improving the wellbeing of medical trainees across the region.  

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new position, Dr Smith stated, "It is fantastic to join the committee and contribute to its brilliant work. Given the recent publication of the NHS long-term workforce plan and the escalating demand for services, it has never been more critical to champion, support, and advance the strategic vision of our outstanding respiratory teams. I am eager to collaborate with BTS in achieving this shared goal.”
