New BTS Specialty Trainees Advisory Group (STAG) chair announced
We are delighted to announce that Dr Shaun Thein has been appointed as the new Chair of the BTS Specialty Trainees Advisory Group Chair (STAG).
The STAG plays the essential role of ensuring that the work of the Society reflects the needs, concerns and views of doctors in training, and it provides BTS the trainee’s perspectives in areas including education, training, workforce, research.
About his appointment, Dr Thein said: "I’m looking forward to working closely with the BTS and continuing the fantastic work that Dr Loewenthal and the STAG have done."
Dr Thein is a Clinical Research Fellow at Birmingham Health Partners and holds a teaching lectureship at Christ Church College, University of Oxford, as well as the secretary for the West Midlands-based respiratory trainee research network RespTRACT and a trainee representative on the Midlands Thoracic Society.
Dr Thein takes the lead of the STAG from Dr Lola Loewenthal, who led the Group since 2019.
Dr Lola Loewenthal commented: "It has been a pleasure working with the BTS and trainees from across the country.
"The development of projects such as the Introduction to Respiratory Medicine course, the development of the trainee section of the website and INSPIRE, a national integrated respiratory research collaborative, provide opportunities to encourage and improve respiratory training and involvement.
"It has been a privilege to be part of the STAG team and I wish Dr Shaun Thein all the best."
