After 23 years as the Chief Executive of the Society, Sheila Edwards retired at the end of March 2021. The Society owes a great debt of gratitude to Sheila, who was instrumental in transforming BTS into the inclusive and respected institution it is today.
She is succeeded at the helm by Sally Welham, formerly Deputy Chief Executive of BTS. Sally joined BTS in 2007 and in addition to DCE duties, has been responsible for the BTS Guideline programme, quality improvement and workforce activities over recent years. Sally became BTS Chief Executive with effect from the 1st April 2021.
During the past year, BTS HQ has seen a number of other changes in its Senior Management Team.
Louise Preston, a long standing member of BTS staff, became part of the Senior Management Team in October 2020 as Head of Strategy, Education and Improvement. She leads the communications activities of the Society as well as supporting the portfolio of work from the Education and Training, Workforce and Service Development, and Quality Improvement Committees.
Kathryn Wilson joined the Society from the Institute of Imagination in March 2020, as Head of Operations. She is responsible for the BTS HQ in Doughty Street, all suppliers and related matters, risk assessment, management and mitigation, work planning and is involved in a number of other projects, including the migration of the winter meeting to a fully online platform.
And most recently, in October 2020, Miguel Souto joined as Head of Clinical Programmes having moved from Healthwatch Bucks, where he served as CE. Miguel leads on BTS’ clinical programmes, including guidelines, quality standards, clinical audit, registries and quality improvement, and works closely with the Standards of Care, Quality Improvement and Information Governance Committees.
