President and President-elect 2021
BTS President 
At the BTS Annual General Meeting on 2 December 2020, Dr Graham Burns will take up his position as BTS President for 2021 after having served as President-elect for the past year during the tenure of Dr Mohammed Munavvar.
Dr Burns is a Consultant Respiratory Physician in Newcastle. He has been Chair of the BTS Professional Standards and Speciality Workforce Committees during the last 15 years. His projections led to a dramatic increase in respiratory training posts in 2003 (resulting in 450 more consultants to date). He has been involved in chair and advisory capacities in the Department for Health and Social Care Respiratory Strategy Group; RCP London workforce activities; GMC revalidation; and NHSE diagnostics.
He works full time in the NHS yet is very research active and supervises many successful PhD students. Graham has made a huge contribution to medical education, leading undergraduate and postgraduate national and international courses and inspiring the next generation of medical professionals. For his contributions to respiratory medicine, he received the BTS Meritorious Service Award in 2012.
Graham champions respiratory medicine and will be a great ambassador for the specialty.
BTS President-elect
The President-elect for 2021 is Rachael Moses, currently Associate Director for Rehabilitation and Therapies at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Trust. She assumes the role on the 2nd December 2020 at the BTS Annual General Meeting.
Rachael specialised in in respiratory and critical care physiotherapy at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust, before moving to St Georges Hospital, London, to take up the role of Principal Respiratory Physiotherapist and Clinical Team Lead. In 2015 she was appointed Consultant Respiratory Physiotherapist, in which role she lead the Lancashire and South Cumbria Long Term Ventilation Service, an area comprising eight Clinical Commissioning Groups and five acute NHS trusts.
Before moving to her current position, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic Rachael assumed the role of Chief Allied Health Professionals at the new NHS Nightingale Hospital of London, built as part of the UK emergency response to COVID-19.
Rachael is a long standing BTS member and had roles within the Society in the past, including being a Council member, sitting on the Education & Training Committee and several Specialist Advisory Groups.
