Changes in Board membership
Officers
We would like to welcome Dr John Park as the new Honorary Treasurer of the Society. John takes over at the AGM on 2nd December from Dr Paul Walker who reaches the end of his term in post after helping steer the Society’s finances during a challenging last year in post.
John is a Consultant based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. He trained in the London and Oxford Deaneries, and completed a PhD in pulmonary vascular and structural remodelling at Imperial College London National Heart and Lung Institute. John was Chair of the BTS Education and Training Committee between 2017 and 2019.
When asked about his appointment, he said:
"In my new role as the Honorary Treasurer I aim to continue to maintain fiscal stability to the Society through challenging and varied times. And broadly, as a member of the Board, I will continue to support our digital progress and innovative approaches within BTS".
Chair of Workforce & Service Development Committee
Dr Charlotte Addy has been appointed as the new Chair of the Workforce and Service Development Committee (WSDC). We would like to thank Dr Justine Hadcroft and Dr Graeme Wilson, previously co-chairs of the Committee, for their service over the past four years, which saw the merging of the Workforce Committee and the Service Development Committee into one. As the Committee's Chair, Charlotte also becomes a Trustee and serves on the BTS Board.
Dr Addy has also previously served as a Specialty Trainee representative on the Standards of Care Committee and as Chair of the Specialty Trainees Advisory Group (STAG), as well as being a contributor to the development of BTS guidelines.
Asked about the her new role, Dr Addy said:
“The role of the Workforce and Service Development Committee has evolved, and will need to continue to adapt to meet emerging new challenges. Effective delivery of respiratory care now, and in the future is dependent on a multi-professional workforce, a key priority for me as incoming chair is to facilitate and support this ongoing shift.
The next few years will be particularly important, with the development of the current and future respiratory community at their core. The WSDC will play an integral role within wider BTS work in this area.
"Taking up the chair in this unique period is both daunting and exciting, and I look forward to helping the WSDC to provide guidance and support to the current and future respiratory community.”
