President 2020

Dr Mohammed Munavvar will officially assume the role of President of the British Thoracic Society starting today, following the AGM held at the Society’s Winter Meeting. Dr Munavvar served as President-elect in 2018 and remains a member of the Board of Trustees.

Dr Munavvar has been a Consultant Chest Physician at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, Preston, UK for over 18 years. He is also President-elect of the European Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology; a Regional Speciality Adviser, Royal College of Physicians of London, and Clinical Director, Respiratory Medicine.

He has been the founder/organiser of the Preston Basic Bronchoscopy course and BTS Interventional Bronchoscopy/Thoracoscopy course for over 15 years. He has been an active faculty member at the ERS Interventional Bronchoscopy and Thoracoscopy courses at Athens/ Lille, European Association of Bronchology courses, besides workshops arranged by the Gulf Thoracic Society, Saudi Thoracic Society and Indian Association of Bronchology.

Dr Munnavar chaired the BTS Basic Bronchoscopy Guideline Development Committee; is a Specialist Adviser to NICE Interventional Procedures Committee; has been Director of Research and Innovation;  Training Programme Director for Respiratory Medicine and a member of the BTS Specialist Advisory Group for Interventional Pulmonology.   He is actively involved in the evaluation of innovative techniques/ tools in Thoracoscopy/ Bronchoscopy, and has a special interest in the overall Management of Lung Cancer/ Pleural pathologies/Emphysema and TB.
