Professor Mark Woodhead will assume the role of President of the Society at the AGM on 6th December 2017, having served as President-elect in 2017. He remains a member of the Board of Trustees.
Mark Woodhead is a Consultant (appointed 1992) and Honorary Clinical Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Manchester Royal Infirmary. His specialty interest are Pneumonia, Tuberculosis and other lung infections. He chaired the development group that produced the NICE Pneumonia Guideline in 2014 and was Chair of the European Respiratory Society LRTI Guidelines committee Guidelines in 2005 and 2011. Professor Woodhead was co-author of the BTS Guidelines for the management of community-acquired pneumonia. He has been Guideline Director and Assembly Head within the European Respiratory Society and Associate Editor of the European Respiratory Journal.
Professor Woodhead is a member of the North West TB Control Board and has been responsible for setting up TB cohort review in North West England. He was also the clinical lead for the Advancing Quality Pneumonia Care Bundle in North West England. He has more than 160 scientific publications, mainly in field of lung infection.
