Honorary Secretary

This post is one of the most senior in the Society's governance structure.  The Society’s constitution requires that we advertise the vacancies for the three main Honorary Officers in advance of appointment of their successors to ensure that succession planning is well in place and adequate training can be given.  Dr Justin Pepperell will not stand down from this role until December 2019, but we are now seeking someone to take over from him, to serve from December 2019 to December 2022.

You can see the job description here. It contains details about the scope of the post, its role within the Society's governance structure, legal and operational requirements and other useful information.

The Society’s Board of Trustees meets 4 times a year, and the Honorary is also expected to attend the AGM each year.  The Officers’ Group generally meets before each Board meeting and a monthly teleconference is planned for intervening months.  The work involved in undertaking this role is in the region of 2-4 hours per week, although this varies depending on the time of year. On average, 8-10 days a year are spent in London on Society business.
