The Society has a Nurse Advisory Group which aims to develop thinking and produce practical advice and support for respiratory nurses. Recent activities have included contributing to the recent Department of Health/ Skills for Health Respiratory Disease Competence Framework that describes the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are required to deliver patient centred respiratory care.
Currently the group is developing more work on competence, leadership and dyspnoea management.
At the BTS Nurse Advisory Group meeting held during the BTS Winter Meeting in early December 2009, Chris Caldwell, who is a nurse director at Great Ormond Street Hospital seconded to the DH looking at issues surrounding modernising nursing careers, presented an overview of nursing and its direction, which included issues such as leadership. She is happy to share her presentation with us here.
We welcome any comments or suggestions to the NAG which you can send via bts@brit-thoracic.org.uk
