BTS Bronchiectasis Course

This course is organised by Dr Diana Bilton, Consultant Physician/Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London.  The aim of the course is to ensure chest teams in the UK deliver optimal care to patients with bronchiectasis in line with the BTS Guidelines.  Its objective is to equip physicians, nurses and physiotherapists with the latest information on the diagnosis and management of bronchiectasis.

Participants should achieve the following learning outcomes:

  • Understanding of the use of CT to diagnose and monitor disease
  • Knowledge of causes of bronchiectasis which will impact on the management including awareness of immunological assessment
  • Understanding pathogens in bronchiectasis and approaches to antibiotic therapy
  • Awareness of airway clearance techniques and planning physiotherapy for an individual patient
  • Use of anti-inflammatory therapies in bronchiectasis
  • Inhaled steroids and macrolides
  • Ability to write self-management plans for bronchiectasis patients
  • Understand what is required to run a home IV service.


The course is aimed at respiratory specialty trainees, consultants in respiratory medicine, SAS doctors and respiratory specialist nurses.

Course fee:  £180 for BTS members, £315 for non-BTS members.
