The BTS audit tool system has been revised and updated. Each audit now has a designated National Audit period. It is hoped that users will participate in the relevant national BTS audits each year, to allow the BTS to produce an annual national audit report.
 

BTS Audit Newsletter
The first issue (June 2010) of the BTS Audit Newsletter can be downloaded here.

The audit tools are available outside the National Audit Periods for local use (and will allow users to compare their local data with the national picture, but this local data will not contribute to the national dataset). BTS National Audits are included on the list of NCAAG approved audits for 2009/10 Quality Accounts  and for 2010/11 Quality Accounts


The following audit tools are available:

National Pleural Procedures audit
The 2010 National Pleural Procedures audit  runs from 1 June to 31 July 2010
and is now available on the audit system.
Thank you to all who contributed to the pilot pleural procedures audit in 2009.  A report on the pilot audit has been prepared and is available to download here.

National COPD Audit 
BTS is a partner in the ERS European COPD audit which will begin in October this year.  This project, led by Professor Mike Roberts, builds on the successful 2008 UK COPD audit, and involves 13 countries including the UK, Ireland, Austria, Spain, Greece, Romania and Turkey.  BTS provides the national governance group for participation in the audit and all UK respiratory units are invited to participate.  The audit will collect organisational data as well as individual patient records for all those admitted for an exacerbation of COPD between 25 October and 19 December 2010, with follow-up data at 90 days after admission.  Further details, including the full list of data items to be collected will be available on the BTS website in the near future.   Please note that this audit requires registration in advance of the audit start date.  If you would like to participate, or if you have any queries, please email sally.welham@brit-thoracic.org.uk  

Adult Community Acquired Pneumonia
National Audit period 2009/10: 1 December – 31 January
Data entry for the 2009/10 national audit has now closed.  The 2010/11 National audit will open on 1 December 2010.

NIV (Adult)
National Audit period 2010: 1 February– 31 March
Data entry for the 2010 national audit has now closed. The 2011 National audit will open on 1 February 2011.

Adult Asthma
2009 National Audit period: 1 September – 31 October 2009 (data entry for 2009 ran from 1 September 2009 to 15 January 2010, Thank you to all who contributed to the national adult asthma audit for 2009.  The reporting function is now available (click through to the Adult Asthma audit to access the reports function). If you have any queries, please get in touch.  The 2010 National adult asthma audit will open on 1 September 2010.

Emergency Oxygen
2009 National Audit period: October – November 2009 (data entry from 1 October 2009 to 30 November 2009). The reporting function for individual institutions is now available.  A summary of results of the 2009 audit are available hereThe 2010 National audit will open on 1 October 2010.

Paediatric Asthma
National Audit period 2009: 1 November– 30 November 2009.  Thank you to all who contributed to the national paediatric asthma audit for 2009.  The reporting function is now available from the Reports page on the BTS audit system. The 2010 National audit will open on 1 November 2010.

Paediatric Pneumonia
National Audit period 2009/2010: 1 November 2009 – 31 January 2010. Data entry for the national 2009/10 audit has now closed.  The reporting function is now available from the Reports page on the BTS audit system.  The 2010/11 National audit will open on 1 November 2010.


The following audit tool will be added to the system in the coming months:

Bronchiectasis: an audit tool work for bronchiectasis in secondary care will be available in the autumn.
