In recent years the Society has gone some way towards involving patients and citizens in our work.
Following a report prepared last year by our then “lay Trustee” about the way in which we currently involve members of the public in our work, the Society decided to establish a Public Liaison Committee. We anticipate that this Committee will play a full part in ensuring that our work and objective-setting continue to be relevant and effective. We already involve a number of patients, carers and citizens in our work, but wish to develop a more strategic perspective.
The Chair of the Committee and a number of members have been appointed and we are now seeking more members, each of whom will serve on one of the 5 main Committees within the structure. These members will be required to attend between 6-8 meetings each year and will serve for a maximum of three years.
We are seeking enthusiastic and informed individuals who are able to appreciate the full range of the Society’s activities and the UK healthcare environment and who wish to contribute to what we do. You can expect to be involved in wide-ranging discussions in Committee and workshop settings. Please browse our website for more information about what we do.
The posts are honorary but reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed. The Society’s offices are in central London.
To be considered please send a letter of application by post or to sheila.edwards@brit-thoracic.org.uk (the Society's Chief Executive). Let us know something about your background and life experience, and how you feel you can make a contribution.Closing date for applications: Friday 19 February 2010.
Interviews: will be held in early March. Interviews will be with the Chair of the Trustees, the Chair of the Public Liaison Committee, the Chief Executive and another Officer of the Society.
