COPD – a NICE breath of fresh air
10 November 2010
Venue: Royal College of Physicians, London
This conference highlights recent key developments in the diagnosis and management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) following publication of updated National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance on COPD and the national Clinical Strategy consultation. Over three million people in the United Kingdom are estimated to have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), of whom more than two thirds remain undiagnosed, representing the so called “missing millions.” The conference aims to provide an excellent and comprehensive review of new guidance on accurate diagnosis and assessment as well as management. A faculty of expert speakers will summarise new recommendations on the best multi-disciplinary management of COPD in primary and secondary care. Important changes relate to new diagnostic criteria for COPD, changes to the classification of severity of airflow obstruction, the need for multidimensional severity assessment, a new algorithm for inhaled drug treatments, and the value of early pulmonary rehabilitation. The faculty will also address key priorities for implementation of NICE guidance, emerging drug therapies and future research recommendations.
Audience: This conference should appeal to all health care professionals and carers who wish to improve their skills in identifying more people with COPD and in providing them with the best possible care and quality of life.
