The aims of the the British Association of Stop Smoking Practitioners are to:

Raise the profile of the profession nationally

Improve communication between practitioners themselves and other relevant organisations

Increase support for practitioners
- Provide representation at national and local levels to highlight issues pertinent to practitioners
- Share and encourage evidence-based best practice.
Membership of BASSP
Membership is open to all those who have a professional interest in smoking cessation and are committed to reducing the prevalence of smoking in the UK. Membership of BASSP is not open to those who benefit commercially from smoking. BASSP will not tolerate members or those organisations for whom they work implying that membership of BASSP in any way endorses their activities or the techniques used in their practice. BASSP is a new organisation affiliated to the British Thoracic Society (BTS), and therefore members of BASSP are also members of BTS.
A concessionary rate of £37 per year if offered for the first two years to BASSP members. This membership fee covers regular updates and bulletins from BASSP, and also concessionary rates for all BTS and BASSP short courses and conferences. In addition, you will have full access to the BASSP and BTS website, including the forums. You will also be able to download all guidelines and educational materials at no extra cost.

Early Day Motion
Following the launch of BASSP at the Houses of Parliament in July 2007, an Early Day Motion (EDM) was passed which welcomed the establishment of the Association and gave support to its objectives.
