The aims of the the British Association of Stop Smoking Practitioners are to:

Raise the profile of the profession nationally

Improve communication between practitioners themselves and other relevant organisations

Increase support for practitioners
- Provide representation at national and local levels to highlight issues pertinent to practitioners
- Share and encourage evidence-based best practice.
Membership of BASSP
BASSP is affiliated to the British Thoracic Society (BTS), and members of BASSP are also members of BTS. Membership is open to all those who have a professional interest in smoking cessation and are committed to reducing the prevalence of smoking in the UK. Membership of BASSP is not open to those who benefit commercially from smoking. BASSP will not tolerate members or those organisations for whom they work implying that membership of BASSP in any way endorses their activities or the techniques used in their practice.
Membership of the Society is not open to persons who are or have been full, or part-time employees of, or paid consultants to, or received payment for service and/or sponsorship in any form, including research funding or benefits in kind from the tobacco industry, at any time during the ten years prior to their application for membership.
BASSP members join at our concessionary membership fee. This covers regular updates and bulletins from BASSP, and also concessionary rates for all BTS short courses and conferences. In addition, you will have full access to the BASSP and BTS website and will be able to download all guidelines and educational materials at no cost. The membership year starts each March. If you join during the year then pro-rata rates will apply.

Early Day Motion
Following the launch of BASSP at the Houses of Parliament in July 2007, an Early Day Motion (EDM) was passed which welcomed the establishment of the Association and gave support to its objectives.
